Skin Type Solutions® is a physician-founded, science-based skincare system built around the Baumann Skin Typing System, a classification method developed by Dr. Leslie Baumann, M.D., the medical director of Body+Beauty Lab, who practices exclusively there. Her system has been validated through over decades of clinical research and dermatology practice and identifies 16 distinct skin types based on four measurable characteristics. From there, its proprietary software generates a personalized skincare regimen drawn from a curated selection of 60-plus medical-grade brands and over 40,000 tested routines. At Body+Beauty Lab, Skin Type Solutions® products are available through our in-office store, ensuring you have access to the right products with the guidance of a qualified provider behind every recommendation.

What Does Skin Type Solutions® Assess?

The Baumann Skin Typing System evaluates your skin across four key characteristics, each measured on a spectrum, to determine which of the 16 Baumann Skin Types best describes your skin. The four parameters are: oily versus dry, sensitive versus resistant, pigmented versus non-pigmented, and wrinkle-prone versus tight. Once you complete the Baumann Skin Type Quiz, you will receive a four-letter skin type code and a personalized morning and evening skincare regimen with specific product recommendations for each step. Are Skin Type Solutions® products considered medical grade?

Yes. Every product available through the Skin Type Solutions® system meets the standards required to be designated as STS Approved, a set of formulation, manufacturing, and packaging guidelines developed to ensure clinical efficacy and quality. These are physician-dispensed products, not over-the-counter formulations, which is why they are available only through Body+Beauty Lab’s Bay Harbor Islands location rather than a retail shelf.

Can the recommended regimen be adjusted over time?

Absolutely, and it is designed to be. The Skin Type Solutions® system is built around the understanding that skin changes with age, seasons, hormones, and lifestyle. Your regimen should be updated monthly, and your skin type quiz should be retaken every three months to keep your routine current.
