What Is RADIESSE®?

RADIESSE® is a non-surgical, FDA-approved dermal filler designed to revitalize your skin by acting as a biostimulatory filler. The treatment involves injecting a water-based gel beneath the skin to safely restore lost volume, smooth fine lines, and enhance facial contours. What sets RADIESSE® apart from other fillers is that it is made up of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), a naturally occurring, biodegradable substance that encourages skin cells to produce their own collagen and elastin. CaHA particles create a framework within the skin that the collagen builds around and eventually replaces. This process is what makes RADIESSE® have such long-lasting results. Cells produce collagen for up to a year and elastin for up to nine months after a RADIESSE® treatment.

How long does a RADIESSE® treatment take?

RADIESSE® treatments typically take around 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Your exact treatment length will depend on which areas are being treated and the number of areas being addressed.

Is RADIESSE® treatment painful?

RADIESSE® is generally well tolerated and is usually not considered painful. However, this will depend on factors like individual pain tolerance. Most patients experience only mild discomfort during the procedure—typically a slight pinch at the injection site. For added comfort, a numbing cream can be applied beforehand.

Are there side effects of RADIESSE®?

RADIESSE® is non-toxic and hypoallergenic; however, some mild side effects may still occur. These include swelling at the injection site(s), itching, bruising, redness, and pain. These side effects are usually mild and short-lived. If side effects appear severe or last for over a week, we recommend contacting your healthcare provider.

RADIESSE® is best for adults over the age of 18 who are seeking natural-looking results. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those with bleeding disorders, or who have a history of severe allergic reactions or skin reactions should not use RADIESSE®.

What should I do before and after RADIESSE® treatment?

Before your RADIESSE® treatment, avoid blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen and aspirin. Don’t consume alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment, and discontinue the use of retinol products. We ask that you arrive at your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face. After your treatment, avoid touching the treated areas and refrain from strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.
